Sunday – July 5

The first week of our training camp has come to an end!

The morning began with work on group projects, where each team continued to bring their ideas to life and refine their prepared materials. Afterward, the campers enjoyed some well-deserved free time. Some headed into town, while others spent a few hours with their families to recharge before the next week of camp.

In the evening, we all attended the Divine Liturgy, led by Father Figol. After the service, he gave us an insightful and engaging talk. A special moment of the evening was writing postcards for our defenders. Every warm word of support is a small token of gratitude to those who defend Ukraine every day.

There is still so much new knowledge, adventure, and unforgettable memories ahead of us!

Saturday – July 4

Today at Vyshkil was full of events and emotions.

In the morning, a group of social activists organized a demonstration in the town of Acton in support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian children who were illegally abducted by Russia. We were pleasantly surprised by the sincere support of the town’s residents, who honked their car horns and offered words of encouragement. This reminded us once again that the world is not indifferent to Ukraine’s struggle.

After returning to the camp, the campers had some free time and later took part in an exciting scavenger hunt. Participants searched for clues throughout the camp grounds, worked in teams, used their wits, and had a wonderful time.

The day ended with a fun camp party, where everyone could relax, dance, and spend the evening in a friendly atmosphere. Another day at camp left behind countless vivid memories!

Friday – July 3

Another Vyshkil day was filled with new knowledge, teamwork, and special camp traditions.

After the morning roll call, the boys headed to seminars on theology, teaching methods, CYMoznavstvo, and leadership. Throughout the day, they also had the opportunity to cool off in the pool, which was a pleasant break from their studies.

The older boys began their “camp within a camp.” For the first time, they set up their own tents, in which they would spend the night. Later, the boys worked on group projects and made posters for tomorrow’s event dedicated to Ukrainian children illegally abducted by Russia.

In the evening, a memorial service was held for the fallen heroes of CYM, during which everyone came together to remember those who gave their lives for Ukraine. To conclude the day, the older boys gathered around the campfire, where they sang camp songs, and then headed to their tents for the night.

Thursday – July 2

Today at camp was filled with adventures, work, and Ukrainian traditions.

The morning began with short but meaningful talks, after which we set off on a walk to Rockwood Park. There, the campers had a wonderful opportunity to relax, go for a swim, stroll along picturesque forest trails, and see majestic natural caves. It was a wonderful time to enjoy the beauty of nature and spend the day together.

Upon returning to camp, everyone busily prepared for one of the most anticipated evenings—the celebration of Ivan Kupala. The girls wove traditional wreaths, while the boys crafted little boats and crosses, which later became part of the festive celebration.
In the evening, the entire camp gathered for the celebration. Ukrainian Kupala songs rang out, the girls floated their wreaths on the water, and the boys eagerly awaited the chance to go after them. The atmosphere was filled with Ukrainian traditions, sincere smiles, and unforgettable emotions.

This special day concluded with a traditional bonfire and jumping over the flames—a symbol of purification, unity, and courage. It is moments like these that create memories that stay with us for a lifetime.

Wednesday – 1 July

The heat tried to wear down our CYMivci, but they didn’t let it get to them. In the morning, there was a roll call, after which everyone had breakfast and cleaned their barracks.

After that, the participants began their training with a variety of interesting talks, including presentations by our guestspeakers: Harry Nesmasznyj, Petro Schturyn, Vasyl Symchych, and Danylo Radovenchyk.

Despite the heat, the children eagerly awaited the chance to take a dip in the pool, where they had a wonderful time, and in the evening they enjoyed a delicious barbecue.

After dinner, the participants engaged in cultural activities: Petrykivka painting, sewing, and creating videos, and later everyone sang together.

To wrap up the day, the children continued watching the HBO series *Chernobyl*, and then everyone enjoyed the festive fireworks in celebration of Canada Day.

Tuesday – 30 June

Another action-packed day at training camp, filled with new knowledge, practical skills, and unforgettable experiences!

Throughout the day, campers took part in important and interesting discussions, during which they had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on a variety of topics that will help them both in camp life and beyond. Today, special attention was given to outdoor skills. Participants learned how to build a fire, set up tents properly, and acquired practical skills that are an integral part of life as a CYMivets.

A particularly valuable event was a meeting with historian Prof. Marta Dyczok, who shared her knowledge with the campers and explained why history is so important, how it shapes our national memory, and how it helps us better understand the present.

The day ended with an evening swim, which put everyone in a good mood, provided a chance to relax, and offered the opportunity to enjoy a summer camp evening.

Every day at camp is another step toward new knowledge, stronger friendships, and personal growth.

Monday – 29 June

Our vyskhilnyky began their first workshops today! The first half of the day was devoted to learning: the participants took part in workshops on CYM Studies and Methodology, where they deepened their knowledge of CYM’s organization and traditions and acquired useful skills for their future work.

Today we also celebrated the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. On this occasion, we prayed together and reflected on their example of faith, devotion, and service, which inspires each of us.

After lunch, the campers had time to rest, and later enjoyed active leisure time playing volleyball and swimming in the pool.The day ended with dinner, an evening gathering, and a group viewing of the HBO series “Chernobyl.” There’s still plenty of new learning, challenges, and unforgettable camp moments ahead!

Sunday – 28 June

Today, the All-Canadian Counsellor-in-Training Camp “Let Victory Begin with Me,” named in honor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, officially began at the “Veselka” campground near Toronto. The ceremonial order marking the camp’s opening emphasized that this year’s main anniversary is the 80th anniversary of the reestablishment of CYM in the Diaspora (1946)!

The camp staff includes the following people: Tanya Choly—camp director; Larysa Luszczki—bunczuzhna; Natalia Schturyn—program coordinator; Danylo Radovenchyk—pysar; obozni —Melania Schturyn and Lesyk Choly; counsellors—Hanya Ostapiuk and Irka Shust.

The camp brought together participants from various parts of Canada: Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, St. Catharines, London, Mississauga, and Etobicoke. A total of 51 participants gathered to spend two weeks in the spirit of brotherhood, discipline, service, and love for Ukraine.

The first day was devoted to getting to know one another, reviewing the camp rules and each participant’s responsibilities, and preparing for the packed program ahead. May this camp be a place where everyone takes another step toward personal growth, and may the words “Let victory begin with me” serve as a guiding principle not only during camp but also in everyday life.
