On Sunday, June 30, the All-Canadian Counsellor-in-Training camp began at camp Veselka near Acton, Ontario. This year 45 young counsellors, including 27 girls and 18 boys from the following Canadian Branches joined the camp: Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Etobicoke, Mississauga and St. Catharines.

The camp began with the traditional Divine Liturgy served by Fr. Bohdan Wynnyckyj, followed by the opening ceremony – apel. In addition the campers participated in a requiem paying tribute to the late Stefan Romaniw, former Vice-President of the CYM World Executive and Vice-President of the Ukrainian World Congress, a tireless defender of Ukraine’s freedom around the world.

Leading this year’s counsellor-in-training camp are: Natalie Schturyn – camp director, Laryssa Lusczcki – ‘bunczuzhna’, Tanya Choly – head counsellor, Melanie Schturyn and Michael Zelyk – ‘obozni’, instructors – Irka Shust-Dankowycz, Hanya Ostapiuk, Harry Nesmasznyj and Olenka Laszczuk.

The first day ended with a presentation of all the camp rules and expectations as well as playing icebreaker games to ensure that the young counsellors get to know each other.
