Christmas is a time of year when family and friends get together to celebrate. A time when we cherish what we have in a world that can sometimes be turbulent and troubling.
Australia is witnessing the most horrific bushfire season in its history. Millions of hectares burnt, thousands of animals lost, hundreds of homes destroyed and dozens of lives perished. This is a tragic time in our history, with these fires also being the largest the world has ever seen, yet we are not even half way through our Summer season.
CYM and its members are renowned for their support of the Ukrainian community; locally, nationally and globally. We can all agree that it is important not only to assist our Ukrainian community but also our local Australian community in which we live. Moreso, when we think about these difficult times, we can all remember when the local Australian Authorities have been there to help our local oseredky during various events such as bushfires, floods, and so on.
The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (CYOA), being our national umbrella body, has started a campaign to raise funds for those who have been affected by the recent fires. As such, I believe it would only be appropriate for the national CYM family to also get together and put their donation forward as ONE group to the CYOA “Carols for Australia” campaign, rather than our individual donations.
We would ask for oseredky AND their members to deposit their funds into the KY bank account as outlined below or by donating online here (cym.org/au/donate).
KY will match dollar for dollar donations towards the bushfire effort up to $2,500.
We have around 100hours until we celebrate our Ukrainian Christmas on 7 January 2020.So we are asking EVERYONE to act quickly and gift in the spirit of Christmas, to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Lets all act together as one CYM family on this matter.
