It is with great sadness that we inform you about the passing of Mr. Volodymyr Okipniuk, a long-standing member of the UYA National Executive as well as Toronto Branch. Druh Volodymyr was one of the founders of the UYA Winnipeg Branch and after moving to Toronto the second president of the UYA Toronto Branch in 1949. He was a member of the National Executive for many terms, member of the World Grievances Committee and an active member of CYM and advisor his whole life. He was Camp Director and attended many camps at Veselka. He was an active member and leader of the Ukrainian community. He belonged to the League of Ukrainian Canadians, served on its local and National Executive for many years and was the Director of the Ukrainian weekly newspaper “Homin Ukrainy (Ukrainian Echo). He will be remembered as a patriot and a Ukrainian nationalist.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Mrs. Zenia Okipniuk, his children Myron and Irene and their families.
Due to restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic, a private funeral will be held and a funeral mass and celebration of Druh Volodymyr’s life will be held in the future.
