We would like to congratulate our active as well as former CYM members who have been awarded the Taras Shevchenko Medal, the highest form of recognition that can be granted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the Ukrainian Canadian Youth Leadership Awards of Excellence. Amongst the recipients are former Presidents of the Ukrainian World Congress, СУМ World Executive, CYM Canada National Executive and Branches.
The Shevchenko Medal recognizes individuals of Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian descent, as well as institutions and organizations, for their outstanding national contribution towards the development of the Ukrainian Canadian community. Outstanding achievement is measured by the recipients’ level of excellence and initiative, their sustained body of work, peer recognition and the recipients’ broad impact inside and outside the Ukrainian Canadian community. Amongst the recipients are: Halia Lypska-Wilson (Calgary), Olya Odynsky-Grod (Toronto), Irene Jendzjowsky (Edmonton), Myroslava Pidhirnyj (Winnipeg), Markian Shwec (Toronto), Yuri Shymko (Toronto).
The Ukrainian Canadian Leadership Award of Excellence gives recognition to Ukrainian Canadians for outstanding leadership which significantly contributed to the broader Ukrainian community and the betterment of Canada. The following CYMivci have been awarded the UCC Leadership Award: Marko Suprun (Winnipeg) and Peter Schturyn (Toronto).
The Ukrainian Canadian Youth Leadership Award of Excellence gives recognition to young adult Ukrainian Canadians for outstanding leadership which significantly contributed to the broader Ukrainian community and the betterment of Canada. Amongst the recipients receiving the UCC Youth Leadership Award: Danylo Musienko (Calgary).
In total, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress announced the awarding of thirteen Taras Shevchenko Medals, seventeen UCC Leadership Awards of Excellence and four Youth Leadership Awards of Excellence.
The recipients have been invited to receive their awards at ceremonies to be held at the XXV Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians September 29 to October 2, 2016, being held in Regina, Saskatchewan.
