The tall pines that frame the main building at Verkhovyna whisper their welcome to the cars that stream onto the parking lot from the old dirt road. Excited chatter breaks the stillness of the rugged rocky slopes as eager campers hop out of their parents’ cars and rush to join those lucky ones already present. Old friends are rediscovered and newcomers are quickly sized up before being drawn into the throng. Although the terrain has yet to condition the muscles of these city slickers, with some effort everyone heads up the steep path to the chapel. The bell rings, calling us to Divine Liturgy.
