On the occasion of the 199th anniversary of the birth of the great Ukrainian Taras Shevchenko, on Sunday 17th March 2013, the Queanbeyan Hromada Organised a celebration of his life, in which Podryhy Sophia and Marusya Jacyshyn took part. Pan Spesyvy, President of the Queanbeyan Hromada greeted guests. Pan Stanislaw Stashevskyi from the Ukrainian Embassy in Australia outlined events to take place in Ukraine in 2014 to mark the 200th Anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth. Amongst other participants in the concert were podryha Marusya Jacyshyn and Pani Ilyk, President of the Union of Ukrainian Women in Queanebyan.
