On the 25th of October, during the Invictus Games in Sydney, the National Executive of the Ukrainian Youth Association in Australia organised a Meet & Greet night with Team Ukraine at the Gallon Wine Bar. The Meet & Greet was held as a charitable event for ATO veterans through the Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
During the night, the people present had an opportunity to participate in a silent auction where various Ukrainian prizes were available for bidding. One of the prizes was a jubilee coin “Cyborgs” in commemoration of the Ukrainian soldiers who fought at the Donetsk airport (2013-2014). The coin was a gift by the captain of Team Ukraine, Serhiy Ilchytsky.
A feature of the evening was the release of a new book, ‘Volunteer Battalions’, that is about the history of volunteer battalions who first fought against the Russian aggressors in 2013.
Among the present, was an honourable guest, Vadym Svyrydenko, Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for rehabilitation of ATO participants in the anti-terrorist operations.
The Invictus Games will finish on Saturday 27th October. The Ukrainian team has now won 20 medals, 7 of them are gold. On behalf of the community, we are very proud to meet these courageous people and welcome them to Australia.
