On the 20th of October, Sydney became the host of the Invictus Games, an international sporting event in a Paralympic style, founded by Prince Harry in 2014. Participants of the games are war veterans who have been injured from military service. This year, 18 countries are taking part, one of which is Ukraine. Among the Ukrainian team are Heroes who have been injured and left disabled from the current war in East Ukraine, fighting for independence.
The National Executive of the Ukrainian Youth Association in Australia and the Sydney branch, along with the Ukrainian community, welcomed the Ukrainian Heroes at the airport and at the Ukrainian hall.
Ukrainians in Australia have been supporting our Heroes in all the events. It is now Day 3 of the Invictus Games, and Ukraine has taken part in three events, cycling, rowing and swimming. Ukraine has received 3 gold medals (from rowing) and one bronze medal (from cycling).
On the 22nd of October, the Ukrainian youth in Sydney had an unforgettable opportunity to meet with Team Ukraine in a Q&A forum where they were given the opportunity to ask about the injuries and the journey of the Heroes to rehabilitation. At this forum, were present two members of the National Executive of CYM in Australia, President d. Andrij Duma and General Secretary, d. Markian Stefanyshyn.
The National Executive wishes the Ukrainian team all the best in the rest of the Invictus Games.
Glory to the Ukrainian Invictus Games Heroes! Glory to Ukraine!
