2024 Infrastructure Improvements
Over the past year, the CYM Ellenville Board has made impactful upgrades to Oselia, focusing on infrastructure, safety, and honoring the Ukrainian heritage. These efforts reflect our commitment to preserving the camp’s legacy while creating a more enjoyable and functional space for campers and visitors.
Main Road
Two major sections of the main road that were badly damaged have been cleaned up and resurfaced with new asphalt.
Kitchen
Following the 2022 kitchen fire, the small kitchen in the Zalia was renovated and reconfigured to accommodate all of Oselia’s food preparation needs. These renovations began in 2022 and continued through 2024 and included two new commercial refrigerators, a commercial freezer, stainless steel tables, and all other necessary kitchen equipment. In 2024 specifically, two new commercial ovens were installed to replace the original propane ovens.
Sports Field
Thanks to the initiative of the Yonkers Oseredok, led by Orest Kozicky, and the dedicated efforts of Jason and Adrian Kushnir, the sports field now features a new drainage system, and the track was leveled for improved use.
Septic System
The entire septic system was fully cleaned and upgraded with new piping. All seven sewage tanks were located, emptied, and thoroughly cleaned as part of the overhaul.
Sumenyata Building
Interior renovations in the Sumenyata building, located in the old girls’ camp, included new toilets and fresh paint. The second building was cleared of all items and inspected. Its roof was covered to prevent further leaks, and the structure is currently being assessed for potential restoration.
Trubyna
A new metal cross was installed on the Mohyla, replacing the original that had deteriorated and the Trubyna was cleaned.
Hotel
The exterior of the building was repainted, and a new roof was installed. The hotel’s sewer pipe was repaired, and nearby trees were removed to prevent roof damage. The septic system was upgraded with new pipes and a new tank. Interior updates included new bed linens, curtains, and lamps. A kitchenette area now offers guests access to a complimentary tea and coffee station.
Electrical Upgrades & Repairs
Following the 2022 kitchen fire, electrical systems in both the front and back of the bungalows required repairs. All necessary upgrades and repairs began in 2022 and completed by 2024. In addition, high-speed WiFi has been upgraded and expanded beyond the main hall, administration building, and candy store to now include the camp, Krynytsia (member lodging), and the Selo bungalows.
Murals
The Tomashosky family funded two murals outside the main hall (Zalia) in memory of Valentina (Valya) Tomashosky. The murals were completed by artist Olga Muzician Pacilio. Additionally, Cymivka Liana Soltys painted a vibrant mural on the Husenyata building, enhancing its appearance and creating a more welcoming atmosphere for our youngest campers.
Trees
Many aging trees have begun to dry out, damaging pipes and falling on roofs and fences. To prevent further damage and support ongoing projects, hazardous or diseased trees were removed and will continue to be addressed as needed.
In addition to the major projects outlined above, numerous smaller repairs, improvements and enhancements were made throughout Oselia. These upgrades ensure that Oselia remains a safe, welcoming, and inspiring place for all who come through its gates.
