This October, 15 Ukrainian service members and veterans will compete at the international Invictus Games in Sydney.

The team was selected by a special commission from among the winners of the National Team Trials held in Kyiv on May 12.

This year, Australia will become the fourth country to host the Invictus Games.

Participants from 18 nations will head “down under” to Sydney to compete in 11 adaptive sports. Ukraine will be among them.

Social integration of wounded, injured and sick service members is crucial for public attitudes towards disabled people. Disabled people have still been facing ignorance, prejudice and fears that are restricting their abilities and opportunities for successful careers, studying and self-development. This also holds true with wounded, injured and sick military veterans.

The Invictus Games aim to overcome stereotypes about disabled servicemen, replacing them with a sense of pride and respect for people who did not lose their zest for life despite terrible ordeals they had been through.

KY CYM Australia invites the All-Ukrainian community to support the Ukrainian team at this year’s Invictus Games, which will be held from the 20th-27th October 2018 in Sydney.
