As part of the observation for St Michael’s Day (Den Sviatoho Mychayila – patron of CYM), the Bradford branch of the Ukrainian Youth Association carries out ‘good deeds’. This year they organised and took part in an action to support Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov, who is in a prison in Russia convicted by the Russian authorities on fabricated terror and politically motivated charges!
Without willows or Gelder Rose there is no Ukraine
On Sunday, 20 November 2016, at the Bradford Ukrainian Women’s Association autumn bazar, members of the community and visitors to the event from the surrounding areas were invited to sign postcards of support, for Oleh Sentsov, who is currently serving a 20-year prison term. The occupying forces in Crimea arrested Oleh, in May 2014.
Over fifty people signed cards of support, many of which, featured the Gelder Rose, one of the symbols of Ukraine. The Bradford branch of the UYA will now send the cards to the prison in Yakutsk, in the hope they reach Oleh to show he is not forgotten and that people care for and support him.
If you would also like to support this action then please contact UYA in Bradford for details, at the following address: – [email protected]
