The Ukrainian Youth Association of Canada (CYM) summer camp in the beautiful Laurentian mountains near Montreal – was once again the home for a 2-week camp for Ukrainian children on July 16-30.
About 60 children – SUM members from Canada and those recently arrived from Ukraine – took part. Participants and counselors from several cities in Quebec and Ontario helped make it a wonderful experience for all.
The name of our camp was Steps to victory – and the activities helped the children understand that all of us can help Ukraine in its struggle for freedom. Every day started and ended with prayer, and the days were filled with learning and fun. The kids learned about our Christian faith, Ukrainian history, culture and traditions, but also had sports and swimming, sang songs, did crafts, went on nature hikes. They made new friends and learned new skills. Scavenger hunts, dances, bonfires and a trip rounded out the program.
Many, many volunteers contributed to making these two weeks unforgettable.
