On December 28th, members of the Rusalky and Mesnyky groups went to visit Queen of the Clergy retirement home for priests in Stamford, CT and greeted the residents with a lively and entertaining Christmas program.  The children prepared several poems and a couple of traditional English Christmas carols which have been translated into Ukrainian.  The residents of the home were pleasantly surprised and intrigued to hear the familiar carols sung in both languages and were impressed with the children’s ability to speak both Ukrainian and English so fluently.  After caroling, the children explained the age old tradition of the Ukrainian “diduch” – ceremonial Christmas wheat decoration – and presented each priest with his own miniature version to have as a memento of their visit.  The children enjoyed a lovely reception following the program and were glad to be asked for a return visit again very soon!
