Stockport’s annual carnival reached a peak on Saturday the 26th July 2014 as thousands watched the Ukrainian Youth Association’s (UYA) colourful float celebrate the community’s flamboyant culture. Children from Stockport’s Ukrainian community danced and sang to their heart’s content, showcasing the rich culture established in Stockport since the 1940,s. Head of Stockport UYA Slawko Semehen said “Traditions are important to us because they remind us of who we are and where we came from. Our parents brought their most valued traditions with them – their Ukrainian folk dances and songs.
