Beskyd Volleyball Tournament

During Labor Day weekend 2014 Chicago CYM Druzhynnyky hosted the first ever Oselia “Beskyd” Volleyball Tournament in Baraboo, Wisconsin. 7 teams gathered to compete for winner’s medals and bragging rights while DJ Taras kept the players and crowd stimulated with his energetic mix of contemporary Ukrainian dance music.

The tournament began on Saturday morning with all 7 teams participating in the opening round of games, and after a long day of exciting volleyball everyone was eager to relax and unwind with DJ Taras once again, with a zabava that night. The remainder of the games took place on Sunday morning with the top four teams competing for first, second and third place with “Two Ukes and a Kraut” coming first, “Topoli” in second and “Zaxid” in third. After the medal presentation everyone gathered to close out the weekend by singing their favorite Ukrainian and English karaoke songs with fond memories of the weekend.

CYM Chicago Druzhynnyk would like to thank all of the tournament players, volunteers and guests that made the weekend a great success. We’d like to especially thank Greg Sidelnik, Danylo Maksymiw, Alexandra Maksymiw, Larissa Kopystynsky, Danylo Diaczun, Steve Zelenko, Yuriy Striltschuk, Taras Dembereckyj and Peter Krutiak for their hard work, time and energy. Also our cooks- Terry Glubisz, Hanusia Glubisz and Mr. M. AND a very big thank you to Zaryad Oseli for giving us the means and opportunity to make this event happen. Until Next year!
