The Australian Easter long weekend provided the perfect opportunity to launch CYM Victoria’s campaign of hikes to prepare for CYM’s trip to the Kokoda Trail in 2014.

Initial advertising saw 10 cymivtsi expressing interest in a multi day hike across the Bogong High Plains near Falls Creek.. Over the weeks the number slowly reduced, until in the final days 2 druzhynyky remained ready to hike.

A 3am departure from Geelong enabled a 9am hike start across the high plains, under clear blue skies with a light covering of frost.  Great walking conditions meant the first 8km to an early lunch were quickly covered.  A diversion to some cattle mans huts meant camp on High Plains Creek was still able to be set up around 2pm. A quick walk to a 15m waterfall and pool proved very tempting for a swim – a very quick swim –  before returning to our campsite to thaw out beside the campfire and re-hydrate dinner

The next couple of days followed a similar pattern, with low clouds and drizzle setting in on the last day, providing a different view of the high plains.  The walk confirmed participants interest in participating in the planned Kokoda Trail walk y CYM and for more walks around Victoria in preparation.
