On Sunday, February 9th friends and family of the AUYA Chicago branch and the Ukrainian-American community gathered for the branch’s annual Christmas luncheon. Guests and their families celebrated with traditional Ukrainian fares such as varenyky, borscht and holubtsi, which were enjoyed by all. Guests were also treated to a Christmas play from the branch’s youth as well as several Ukrainian Christmas carols from the AUYA Choir. One of the guests at the program was Podruha Nadia Dlaboha from New York, a member of KY who came not only to enjoy the Yalinka program, but to also work with other youth counselors at the weekly meeting. The event also featured a Sviatochne Slovo, read by Podruha Olena Vasilik, an AUYA Chicago branch member. Her speech focused on the current Euromaidan protests in Ukraine and how we in the US can support and honor the movement. The program also featured several guest speakers from Chicago’s Ukrainian-American community, who graciously donated to the AUYA Chicago branch. Hosting the event was Podruha Olha Tymouch, a journalism student at Northwestern University and AUYA Chicago member.
