It is with saddened heart that we share the news of the passing of Druh Petro Lutak, a longstanding active member of CYM and the Ukrainian community in Sydney and Canberra.
His patriotic upbringing in a Catholic and patriotic family continued within the ranks of the Ukrainian Youth Association. He was a leading member of CYM Sydney, in honour of Gen. Taras Chuprynka and CYM Canberra-Queanbeyan, in honour of Col. Yevhen Konovalets. He also held the position of Secretary of the Ukrainian Youth Association in Australia. He inspired the hearts of many young men, women, druzhynnyky and Seniors. His keen and vivacious nature also saw take part in the CYM men’s choir, orchestra, and dance ensemble.
Druh Petro would always be willing to volunteer at any given moment, in any sphere of Ukrainian public life.
Within the wider-Ukrainian community, druh Petro was Chair of the Ukrainian Council of NSW, coordinated events and projects in Canberra-Queanbeyan, established a men’s choir in Canberra, worked closely with both Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox priests as well as with the Ukrainian Embassy.
His untimely death is a great loss for the entire Ukrainian community in Australia. The Ukrainian Youth Association expresses its deepest condolences to family, friends, acquaintances, and the entire Ukrainian community.
