Lesia Ukrainka is the pen name for Larysa Kosach-Kvitka one of the best-known poets and writers and one of the foremost woman writers in
Ukrainian literature. She also was a political, civil, and female activist. One the few places were you can see a monument to Lesia Ukrainka is on the grounds of the UNA resort Soyuzivka in Kerhonkson, N.Y., right in our backyard.
On February 24, 2013 our Viddil had a sviatochniy apel in front of Lesia Ukrainka’s monument. Oksana Bihun read a short history about Lesia’s life, and there was a reading of her first poem “Hope” and of the inspirational “Contra Spem Spero”. After the apel, the younger riy Vedmedi place a wreath that they made at the foot of the momument.
