Tabir 2016 – Children of Heroes Project (2)

The success of Tabir 2015 Children of Heroes Project and the overwhelming support we have received inspires and motivates us to continue inviting children from Ukraine who have lost a parent in the defence of sovereignty, to enjoy the experience of our youth summer camp.

We have discovered over the past 12 months that there are many children throughout Ukraine grieving the loss of a parent, or living in domestic situations where a parent has sustained severe, life-changing injuries. As an organization which aims to educat4e and nurture Ukrainian youth in the values enshrined in its motto, “God and Ukraine”, we feel encouraged to continue contributing to an aspect of humanitarian aid which strengthens the sense of solidarity and moral support amongst the youth of Ukraine and Ukrainians worldwide. For 2016 this takes on a greater significance for CYM as we will be celebrating the 70^th Anniversary of the revival of our organization in the diaspora, 25years of Independence, and adopting the motto “Ukraine begins with you”(Україна починаеться з тебе). The message in this phrase is particularly poignant for us in Great Britain as it echoes the message the children left us on their departure, and which remains as a feature in our main hall at Tarasivka.

In 2015 with all your support we far exceeded our target sum but also spent more than our planned budget of £10,000. Nevertheless, with the remaining surplus we can now begin planning for 2016.

Our plan is to invite a bigger group for the last week in July (Sports Camp) and the first week in August (Educational and Recreational Camp). This means the group will be able to enjoy a more diverse range of activities and daytrips. For this project we will once again be collaborating with charitable organisations in Ukraine to help us identify and communicate with potential candidates, and having raised awareness of this project with CYM Ukraine we will also be working closely with them to prepare the children for their trip to England.
