The Honorary Consulate is Open

Following the recent appointment of Jaroslav Duma OAM to the position of Honorary Consul for Sydney, the office of the Honorary Consulate located at, Level 1, 27 – 29 Church Street, Lidcombe, NSW., 2141, is now open.

The office will open three (3) days per week on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 10.30AM until 3.00PM. For all other times, consultations may be made by appointment.

The role of the Honorary Consul is to provide support to citizens of Ukraine and, where possible also to encourage business interests between Australia and Ukraine.

Mr Duma will continue to encourage the close ties between the two countries, which have to date been manifested by a strong Ukrainian community in Australia and growing Diplomatic ties since independence in 1991.

Matters relating to Visa applications to Ukraine and passport matters will still be dealt with by the relevant Consular officer at the Embassy of Ukraine in Canberra.

Given that 2018 is a very important year for the Ukrainian community, which will not only celebrate 70 years of post-war migration to Australian shores, but it will also commemorate the 85th anniversary of tragedy of the Holodomor where up to 10 million Ukrainians perished as a direct result of Stalin’s campaign to annihilate the Ukrainian nation and its people. The year also sees Australia hosting the Invictus Games, and in this regard Ukraine too will send a team to participate.

The formal opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate, including the blessing of the premises by the church hierarchy shall take place on Sunday, 17 December, 2017.
