It is with a heavy heart, that we inform members of the Ukrainian Youth Association in the UK and in the world, that on January 13, 2017, at the age of 65,

Bohdan Zamulinskyj

surrounded by his close family, lost the battle against his terminal illness.

He was an unforgettable, respected and dedicated CYM member and public figure of our community.

Born January 28, 1951 in Bradford, he was the oldest of four children in a patriotic family of Mychailo and Kateryna Zamulinskyj who instilled in their children a love for Ukraine and everything Ukrainian.
In Bradford, Bohdan attended Ukrainian School, where he completed the 10th grade. He joined the ranks of CYM in 1958, participated in CYM summer camps in Chiddingfold, in Thackley, near Bradford, and in Tarasivka. He played in the CYM string orchestra since its creation in 1959, and also in the band for the dance ensemble “Krylati” from its very beginning in 1963.

After attaining his qualifications as a tailor in the early 1970’s, he moved to work in Mansfield and later to Scunthorpe, where he was actively involved in both Ukrainian communities. In 1974, Bohdan moved to Leicester, where he met Darka (née Chymera). They married in July 1975 and started family life in Leicester and had three daughters.

The late Bohdan, was a pivotal member of the Ukrainian community in Leicester for more than 40 years. He was the former branch head of CYM, and the acting Club Secretary and head of the AUGB Branch to the last days of his active life. He was instrumental in the continuous improvement and maintenance of the fabric and facilities of the Ukrainian community centre.

For 58 years Bohdan was a member of CYM and devoted a lot of time and energy for the good of our Organisation. For 32 years he worked tirelessly on the committee of Hospoda, part of CYM’s Krayova Uprava. He loved Tarasivka and provided many items of equipment for the improvement of the bar and kitchen facilities. He was never work-shy and always willing to help in any way.

In his youth Bohdan – “Khmelnytskyj” joined the ranks of the OUN Youth and was a faithful patriot throughout his life. He served as a member of the Organisation’s National Executive for the UK and was on the directorate of the Ukrainian Information Service.

Bohdan had a cheerful, friendly and enthusiastic disposition. He was dedicated and caring to his family, friends and community. In his work, he was courageous, decisive, generous and fair.

The Ukrainian Youth Association and the entire Ukrainian community of Great Britain have lost an active, hardworking and committed member.

CYM expresses sincere condolences to – his mother Kateryna Zamulinskyj, his beloved wife Darka, and daughters Lesia, Katrusia and Hanya, grandchildren Danylo and Larissa, brother Stepan and his family, sisters Maria and Anna with their families, and to the rest of the extended family.
