he CYM/PLAST malanka, an annual Montreal tradition, proudly co-sponsored by the Caisse Populaire Ukrainienne was held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Ukrainian Youth center and what a party it was! With increasing popularity, this year’s event was already sold out by mid November!
The 400 guests in attendance were “wowed” by the amazing décor, which included black velvet, lights, exquisite table centerpieces and much more. Martha Stewart could certainly have learned a thing or two from this setting, thanks to the talents of the Malanka Committee, Taras Kiszczuck and his team, Taras Kit’s bar crew, Bohdan Klymchuk and all of whom invested four days transforming the hall into a magical winter wonderland!
With so many fashionistas in attendance, all that was missing was the cat walk to feature the finest as guests danced to the music of Toronto’s “Zapovid” band “extraordinaire” who kept the momentum going all night! Of course it wouldn’t be a malanka without a traditional kolomejka and the band didn’t let anyone down as 100 teenage dancers took to the circle with intricate Ukrainian dance moves. Another treat was the lively vocal performance by “Poca” during the delicious, four-course dinner.
Hats off to the members of this very dedicated Malanka Committee, Helen Holowka, Melania Golymbiowsky, Emily Horonowich, Tanya Boudreau, Tanya Papa, Kassandra Kuka and all who helped making this event such a success.
