…and now, over to our local BBC correspondent in Tarasivka

Camp looked a bit emptier today as the younger “molodshi” group, together with their councillors, went off on an all-day trip to the National Forest Adventure Centre near Burton.

The older “starshi” group and the sumeniata, meanwhile, had an equally interesting day. Sumeniata learnt some poems, sang songs and danced. The oldest group started to prepare for the camp “vatra” (bonfire), took on a local team in a friendly netball game, attended a talk about the origins of the Ukrainian currency, the hryvnia, as well as talks exploring the 70 years that CYM has existed and thrived in the diaspora, with a particular emphasis on Germany, where it was first revived.

Rather excitingly, we were visited by a journalist from BBC Radio Derby and early on Thursday morning the radio station’s listeners will hear an interesting story about the happy campers in Tarasivka!
