CYM Melbourne Policies

Child Protection Policy

The Board of Directors of Ukrainian Youth Association Melb. Inc. has updated our policies, practices and procedures to ensure compliance with Ministerial Order 870 and Child Safe Standards.
Our newly ratified Child Safe policy was ratified by the Board on December 13th, 2016. This policy was developed with reference to Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) documentation and Departmental advice, Moore’s, Our Community and Ansvar Insurance.

Other policies which complement the Child Safe policy can be found via the links below, and all these policies will be available via the CYM Melbourne website in due course. The Board of Directors has reviewed these policies to ensure that they compliment and reflect the need to comply with legislative and insurance requirements.

Recent queries from members centre around Working with Children Checks (or equivalent).
From our Child Safe Policy:
“All people engaged in child-related activities are required to hold a Working with Children Check and to provide evidence of this check. Please see the Working with Children Check website <www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au> for further information.

The Board of Directors, members of sub-committees, educational leaders, dance teachers and any person undertaking child related activities in our organisation must hold a current Working with Children Check.

As a commitment to child safety our organisation requires that all persons over 18 years of age attending an official UYA Melbourne camp on an overnight basis must hold a current and valid Working with Children Check or equivalent checks (eg VIT or interstate/international safety check). This must be verified on arrival by the relevant authorised person. Failure to produce this will result in an inability to camp. Day visitors not staying overnight are exempt from this requirement. “
Members who hold an “equivalent check” eg. VIT registered teachers, Australian Federal Police officers or Victoria Police Officers who are attending camp on an overnight basis are asked to provide evidence of their registration when registering and/or on arrival (VIT card, police identification).
A Police Check is not an assessment by a government agency. It is only a list of some offences, at a given point in time, and is NOT a Working with Children Check.
