An exhibition and concert to honour 75 years of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) 1942-2017

In 1921 Yurij Tuitiunnyk and his soldiers made a desperate raid into Soviet territory to initiate a rebellion and restore Ukrainian Independence. The raid was unsuccessful.

He called his units the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and thus the name UPA was born into Ukrainian history.

In 1941 Taras Borovets (Bulba) used the name UPA for his insurgent units. In due course the name was adopted by Bandera faction of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists, which managed to unite many thousands and create an army.

Above all, UPA soldiers saw themselves as participants in a national liberation struggle. Their memory lives on.

With writings, songs and photographs we can see and hear the Ukrainian freedom fighters in the days of their youth.
