2011-2012 Season


  1. 9/17/2011 - Official Opening of the 2011-2012 Season
    Our branch kicked-off the 2011-2012 Season with an Official Ceremony, delicious grilled food, and several family games and competitions!

  2. 10/2/2011 - Pilgrimage Under the Protection of the Mother of God
    Our branch once again attended the yearly Pilgrimage Under the Protection of the Mother of God hosted by the Sisters of the Order of St. Basil the Great at Fox Chase Manor, PA. Keeping in theme with the branch’s UPA theme for the year, the children had their homemade icons of the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos (“Pokrova”) blessed by The Most Reverend Stefan Soroka, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia.

  3. 10/15-16/2011 - 26th National Assembly of the UAYA
    Six members of the Philadelphia Branch attended the 26th National Assembly of the UAYA held in Minneapolis, MN. Four members represented our branch while two members represented the National Executive Board of the United States. The Philadelphia Branch was awarded the “Perekhodovyj Prapor” which is awarded at every National Assembly to the branch that displays the most exemplary work over the past three years!

  4. 10/22/2011 - Special Official Ceremony in Honor of Stepan Bandera
    Our branch commemorated the life of OUN leader Stepan Bandera with a Special Official Ceremony. Our oldest boys, the “Black Devils,” prepared a presentation about the life of Bandera. The “Perekhodovyj Prapor,” which was awarded to the Philadelphia Branch the week before at the UAYA National Assembly, was introduced to our branch and youth members, and several members received awards and promotions in rank.

  5. 10/23/2011 - Divine Liturgy and Panakhyda in honor of Stepan Bandera & the Soldiers of UPA
    Our branch commemorated the lives of OUN leader Stepan Bandera and the soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) at a special Divine Liturgy and Panakhyda held at Annunciation of the BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church in Melrose Park, PA. Following the Divine Liturgy and Panakhyda, the branch witnessed a ceremony as former UPA soldiers passed-down their flag to children of former UPA soldiers.

  6. 11/5/2011 - Masquerade
    Our young youth members had lots of fun at a Masquerade party held jointly with the Plast Branch in Philadelphia. The children dressed in their Halloween costumes, created several arts and crafts, played games, ate tasty snacks, and watched a rendition of the story “Kolobok,” which was performed by our branch’s junior counselors.

  7. 11/12-13/2011 - UAYA Philadelphia Branch welcomes His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk!
    On Saturday, November 12, after the students of the Ukrainian Heritage School had a visit from His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk, several members of our Executive Board had a chance to meet with the Patriarch. The following day, the Philadelphia Branch gathered at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia, PA for a Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Beatitude, several bishops, and 30 priests.

  8. 11/19/2011 - Thanksgiving Baskets for Ascension Manor
    The youth members prepared Thansksgiving baskets for the Ukrainian senior citizens at Ascension Manor in Philadelphia.

  9. 11/20/2011 - Day of Endurance
    Our branch enjoyed a beautiful autumnal day at Lorimer Park during its annual Day of Endurance.

  10. 12/3/2011 - St. Andrew's Eve
    The oldest youth members of our branch jointly enjoyed a mystical evening with the Philadelphia Branch of the PLAST scouting organization at a St. Andrew's Eve celebration (“Andrijivskyj Vechir”). Everyone enjoyed having their fortunes told, playing creative games with rich tradition, listening to a performance from the musical group “EMCK,” as well as dancing with one another to good music!

  11. 12/11/2011 - Annual Christmas Bazaar & Visit From St. Nicholas
    The UAYA Philadelphia Branch enjoyed a fun-filled day at its annual Christmas Bazaar which featured a visit from St. Nicholas.

  12. 12/25/2011-1/8/2012 - Christmas Caroling
    The UAYA Philadelphia Branch continued its longtime tradition of going caroling for Ukrainians in the greater Philadelphia area.

  13. 1/14/2012 - Annual Christmas Tree Ceremony
    The UAYA Philadelphia Branch held its annual Christmas Tree Ceremony. Ukrainian Christmas carols were sung and delicious snacks were enjoyed!

  14. 1/21/2012 - Annual New Year's "Malanka" Dance
    Our branch celebrated the New Year to the tunes of the band "Hrim" at its annual New Year's "Malanka" Dance.

  15. 2/18/2012 - 48th Annual UAYA Debutante Ball
    This year, two of our oldest youth members made their debut at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel in front of the UAYA community. The girls, not surprisingly, looked absolutely beautiful in their dresses and three of our boys looked handsome as well as they were escorts. The participants, as well as the members of our branch who were in attendance, enjoyed the evening by celebrating this accomplishment with a nice program, good friends and a fun dance!

  16. 2/22/2012 - Happy Birthday, Myroslaw Soltys!
    Our executive board and youth members sent the first President of our branch, Myroslaw Soltys, birthday cards and a fruit arrangement on the occassion of his 90th birthday!

  17. 3/11/2012 - Divine Liturgy & Panakhyda in Honor of Roman Shukhevych
    Our branch, along with participants of the National UAYA Counselor Conference, attended a Divine Liturgy & Panakhyda in honor of Roman Shukhevych at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jenkintown, PA. Following the services, we organized a “live Tryzub” (trident) in memory of Shukhevych just as members of the Kyiv Branch had done the week before. The “Tryzub” symbolized independence, while everyone’s holding hands symbolized national unity.

  18. 3/17/2012 - UAYA Tests
    Some of our youth members had no trouble at all completing their next UAYA tests. Everything the youth members have learned over the years was easily visible given their worthy results!
